Oct. 28th, 2016 – UW Contemporary Jazz & Jazz Standards Ensembles

These two UW student ensembles launch the 2016-17 series of concerts in the intimate second floor space at Tandem Press. The Contemporary Jazz Ensemble, directed by Johannes Wallmann, is a small group that performs mainstream jazz repertoire from the last two decades (such as compositions by Dave Douglas, Terence Blanchard, Kenny Wheeler, Chris Potter, Dave Holland, and Brian Blade), as well as student compositions. Under the direction of Professor John Schaffer, the Jazz Standards Ensemble is a small group that specializes (as one might imagine) in music from the standard jazz repertoire. 5:00 PM, 1743 Commercial Avenue (just east of North Sherman, on Madison’s East Side).
