With support from the Jazz Consortium’s Special Projects Fund, and in celebration of its 50th year, the 2017 Madison Metropolitan School District Strings Festival includes premiere performances of a new work composed for the occasion by violinist Jon Vriesacker. It will be a fun, jazz-inspired piece that incorporates improvisation and Jon will work with students to prepare for its performance on Festival day. That’s when elementary, middle and high school strings students will join Jon in performing the new work in a single large ensemble at each of the four Festival sites. 10:00 AM at Memorial High School, 11:00 AM (for East Area students) at LaFollette High School, 2:00 PM (for LaFollette area students) at LaFollette High School, and 4:00 PM at West High School. Free admission.
