March 10, 2016 – UW Jazz Standards & Blue Note Ensembles

Directed by Professor John Schaffer and true to its name, the Jazz Standards Ensemble specializes in music from the standard jazz repertoire, while the Blue Note Ensemble performs music from the post-bop jazz period, such as the music of Horace Silver, Hank Mobley, Lee Morgan, Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson, and Art Blakey.  This semester, the BNE is focusing on the music of Miles Davis after 1960, e.g., the “Seven Steps to Heaven” period and the second great quintet (1960-67).  7:30 PM, Morphy Recital Hall in the UW Humanities Building.  Free admission.
