In what is bound to be one of the year’s most celebrated jazz events, Madison Music Collective takes another upward step in the stature of their “Jazz on a Sunday” series with this amazing quartet of jazz luminaries performing a tribute program to the late pianists James Williams and Mulgrew Miller. The concert’s repertoire will include pieces composed by or otherwise associated with Williams and Miller, as well as compositions by each band member. Like James Williams, alto saxophonist Bobby Watson and pianist Donald Brown were members of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, with Watson serving for many years as the Messengers’ musical director. Check out their music as leaders of their own groups, at http://bobbywatson.com/#, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7VKz1w881s, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW0kOj15XoQ, and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHxuX4Atg9g. 3:00 PM, First Unitarian Society Atrium, 900 University Bay Drive.
