8/7 & 8/8: TELEVISED:  INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY FROM CUBA.  More than 50 world-renowned artists came together for this extraordinary “International Jazz Day” All-Star Global Concert from the Gran Teatro de La Habana in Havana, Cuba.  Featured performers include Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller, Chucho Valdes, Kenny Garrett, Ambrose Akinmusire, Antonio Sánchez, Roberto Fonseca, Regina Carter, and many more. The program’s many historic moments include a first-time collaboration between bassist Esperanza Spalding and Cuban music legend Bobby Carcassés.  Though only sporadically so in our community, International Jazz Day (April 30th) is celebrated worldwide, by people of all ages, backgrounds and nationalities in more than 190 countries.  9:00pm on 8/7 and 4:00pm on 8/8, Wisconsin Public TV’s WIS Channel.
