Alexis Lombre returns to Madison after performing at the grand opening of Cafe CODA’s Willy Street location. Ms. Lombre is a young jazz pianist who discovered early that the true essence of music is not just about what you hear but how music makes you feel. Her musical mission is to keep the ‘Soul’ in music alive. The 2017 release of her debut album, “Southside Sounds”, does just that, as it is a soulful reflection of her upbringing on Chicago’s Southside. This collection of her original compositions is an attempt to pay homage to the Southside’s lively artistic, cultural heritage.
In addition to her debut record, Ms. Lombre was featured on “Lifetime: Tribute to Geri Allen” by The Young Detroit Jazz Giants (2018), “Live The Spirit Residency Presents: The Young Masters” (2016), and Mikel Patrick Avery’s “Music for a 1/2 Sized Piano” (2014). She has performed at major jazz venues and festivals in the U.S. with her band, as well as with artists such as Dee Alexander, Ralphe Armstrong, James Carter, Regina Carter, John Douglas, Donald Harrison, Marion Hayden, Charles Heath, Nona Hendryx, Marquis Hill, and Gayelynn McKinney. Alexis has also performed internationally, touring South Africa in February 2019 with the Englewood-Soweto Exchange led by AACM President, Ernest Dawkins; and in 2018, France with Bacongo Square Boulevard, a quartet comprised of American, Congolese and French musicians.
Ms. Lombre has studied with jazz luminaries which include Willie Pickens, Benny Green, Geri Allen, and Robert Hurst, and is currently completing a BFA in Jazz Piano with a minor in Performing Arts Management at the University of Michigan
