5/15: PAUL DIETRICH JAZZ ENSEMBLE. The PDJE reconvenes to play their first show in Madison in almost two-and-a-half years. This performance of trumpeter Dietrich’s original music will feature several new pieces for the ensemble, including one written exclusively for this occasion. The band will feature a who’s who of Madison’s best jazz musicians, including saxophonist Tony Barba; trombonist Darren Sterud; trumpeters Chad McCullough & Jim Doherty and bassist John Christensen. Presented by Blue Stem Jazz. The Bur Oak, 2262 Winnebago St. 7pm. Tickets $15.

This concert will feature all original modern big band music, including several pieces that will be heard by Madison audiences for the first time. I recently spoke to old friend Michael Brenneis about the show and the band for the Showbiz Roundup podcast. We’ll be featuring an incredible band with many wonderful musicians from Madison and the surrounding area:
