11/10:  NICK MAZZARELLA, BEN LAMAR GAY AND THE NORWEGIAN CONNECTION.  Chicago’s saxophonist and composer Nick Mazzarella has been described in All About Jazz as “continuing the approach taken by like-minded trailblazing altoists Eric Dolphy, Ornette Coleman, Henry Threadgill, Oliver Lake, and Gary Bartz by seeking to embody the history of the music while pushing it forward into new realms”.  Sharing the stage will be Chicago cornet player Ben Lamar Gay.  Presented by Blue Stem Jazz.  North Street Cabaret, 610 North St.  8pm.  Tickets $20.
