GUSTAVO CORTIÑAS. Inspired by Galeano’s “Open Veins of Latin America”, the new album by Chicago-based percussionist Gustavo Cortiñas, “Desafio Candente,” journeys through Latin America and its history of colonialism, imperialism and Neo-liberalism; it denounces the power structures that have ruled Latin America and preyed on its people for centuries, while celebrating the resilience of its very diverse communities. In tonight’s program, Gustavo Cortiñas and his band take you on a music journey with accompanying video. Drew Hansen – trumpet; Artie Black – reeds; Matt Davis – trombone; Joaquín García – Piano; Kitt Lyles – bass and Gustavo Cortiñas – drums and cymbals. Presented by Blue Stem Jazz. The Bur Oak, 2262 Winnebago St. 8pm. Tickets $20.
