The Chicago tenor sax titan Frank Catalano with drummer Mike Clark (formerly of Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters) and Wil Blades (Dr Lonnie Smith called him the future) on organ.
Frank signed to Delmark Records as a teenager, the now 41-year old has become a distinctive improviser, prolific composer, patented inventor, endorser of Yamaha Saxophones, Rico Reeds and Jody Jazz mouthpieces.
Frank’s early professional career was marked by an accident in which the middle finger on his right hand was severed and then reattached. He had to re-learn the saxophone, a stylistic expansion from his Chicago school roots to being featured in bands across the jazz and pop spectrum on recording by Jennifer Lopez, Destiny’s Child and John Legend. His four Billboard Jazz Chart topping recordings featured jazz playing rock stars including Jimmy Chamberlain from The Smashing Pumpkins and David Sanborn.
This trio is performing limited engagements. Birdland in NYC, Jazz Kitchen in Indianapolis and North Street Cabaret.
