LunART Festival, a celebration of women in the arts, is excited to welcome everyone to the first in person festival since 2019 as well as an exciting evening of jazz!
Ellen Rowe, a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and currently the Thurnau Professor of Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation at the University of Michigan. She has toured nationally and internationally, performing with a variety of artists including Ingrid Jensen, Kenny Wheeler and John Clayton and has been an Artist in Residence at the U W Madison. Her original compositions have been performed by DIVA, the Perth Jazz Orchestra and the London Symphony. The concert program will include selections from her latest recording, “Momentum—Portraits of Women in Music” (2019), a mainstream jazz album honoring the women trailblazers who have inspired her, including Michelle Obama, Jane Goodall, and Billie Jean King.
Acoustic bassist Marion Hayden is a Detroit native and founding member of the all women jazz group Straight Ahead. She has played with Regina Carter, Geri Allen, Nancy Wilson and Dorothy Donegan, among others. Hayden was awarded the prestigious Kresge Artist Fellowship and is currently a professor at the University of Michigan. “Visions” is her most recent recording.
Eliza Salem is a New York City based drummer who grew up in the vibrant Washington DC jazz scene. She was selected for the renowned Ravinia Steans Music Institute jazz program. Salem is a graduate of the University of Michigan.
