Dexter Gordon Night at the New Breed Jazz Jam @ North Street Cabaret

In this first of four public events during this week’s Madison residency by award-winning jazz historian Maxine Gordon, the opening set at this long-running weekly jam session will feature guest artist Jon Hoel (tenor saxophone) and Paul Dietrich (trumpet) performing music from the late Dexter Gordon’s repertoire with the New Breed: Paul Hastil on keys, Nick Moran on bass, and Michael Brenneis on drums.   Maxine will also be on hand to greet fans and to sell and sign her new book, “Sophisticated Giant: The Life and Legacy of Dexter Gordon,” which won this year’s “Book of the Year” award from the national Jazz Journalists Association.
