ANITA SORENSEN JAZZ WEEK:  MARSHALL GILKES WITH THE UW LOW BRASS ENSEMBLE AND UW JAZZ ORCHESTRA.  Directed by Mark Hetzler and Tom Curry, the LBE is a collective of the trombone choir and tuba/euphonium ensemble. The group plays original compositions, transcriptions, and arrangements of all kinds of music and is open to any UW–Madison student who passes an in-person audition. Directed by Johannes Wallmann, the UW Jazz Orchestra includes 5 saxophones (2 alto, 2 tenor, 1 baritone; flute and/or clarinet); 4 to 5 trumpets; 4 to 5 trombones; piano, guitar, bass, drums. The ensemble workshops and performs music ranging from the classic big band repertoire to contemporary and cutting-edge concert jazz music by today’s leading jazz composers.  Hamel Music Center, 740 University Ave.  7:30pm.  Free admission.
