All-Ages Jam

Madison Jazz Jam rolls into the new year with a house band that includes trumpeter Paul Dietrich, pianist Paul Muench, John Mesoloras on bass, and Devin Drobka at the drums. If you’ve not attended before, jamming is open to all ages and talent levels, and to both instrumentalists and vocalists, and listeners are welcome too.  Each session has two sets, with jammers performing with a professional house band.  The second set is geared to more experienced players while the first is for less-experienced improvisers who can choose to perform the session’s featured song or any of the featured songs from previous MJJ sessions. The music and related learning materials for the featured song can be found on MJJ’s website in advance of each session.  Following each first set tune, house band members provide constructive comments on each jammer’s playing and offer suggestions on ways they can improve.  On 1/3, the first set will feature “Solar,” the 1950s composition most closely associated with Miles Davis.   http://madisonjazzjam.org/
