9/29:  BRANDEE YOUNGER.  The Wisconsin Union Theater launches its 2023-24 Jazz Series with the sonically innovative harpist Brandee Younger.  Inspired by a small but mighty group of black women harpists, including Sarah Lawrence, Ann Hobson-Pilot, Dorothy Ashby, and Alice Coltrane, Younger has collaborated with cultural icons like Common, Lauryn Hill, and John Legend. In 2022, she made history by becoming the first black woman to be nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition. Her most recent album, Brand New Life, fuses hip hop, classical, funk and jazz and includes Younger’s long-time collaborator and friend, percussionist Makaya McCraven.  7:30pm, Wisconsin Union Play Circle.  Tickets $10-$46.
