May 12th, 2017 – “Indigenous Jazz” Concert With The Tony Castañeda Latin Jazz Band

In the Spring season’s final InDIGenous Jazz concert, iconic Madison-based percussionist Tony Castañeda presents a program of original compositions from his band’s album, “Mambo o Muerte,” as well as newly-written music by band members Anders Svanoe and Louka Patenaude, several of which were showcased when the band opened for Poncho Sanchez at the Union Theater last year.  For this concert, the ensemble includes Tony on congas, bongos and other percussion; Anders on baritone, alto, and tenor saxophones; Louka on guitar; Dave Stoler on keyboards; and Henry Boehm on bass.  And for their highly rhythmic music, we’ll clear out a dance floor right in front of the bandstand!  7:30 PM, Madison Public Library’s Central Branch, 201 West Mifflin Street, 3rd floor Community Room.  Free admission.

This concert is made possible by grants from Dane Arts (with additional funds from the Endres Mfg. Company Foundation, the Evjue Foundation, charitable arm of The Capital Times, the W. Jerome Frautschi Foundation, and the Pleasant T. Rowland Foundation) and the John and Carolyn Peterson Charitable Foundation, with additional support from Madison Public Library and media sponsors WORT-FM and Isthmus.
