Set to turn 13 years of age three days after his performance at the Isthmus Festival, pianist Joey Alexander has already built an impressive resume: nominated for two Grammy awards (including “Best Instrumental Jazz Album” for his debut CD, “My Favorite Things”), performances at major jazz festivals (Montreal International, Newport, and Jakarta International) and other major events (UNESCO jazz event organized by Herbie Hancock, Wynton Marsalis’ Jazz at Lincoln Center All-Star Gala, 2016 Grammy Awards program), and winner (at age 10) of the Master Jam Fest improvisation contest at the Odessa Jazz Festival in Ukraine (where he triumphed over 43 adult professionals from 17 countries). His talent has been described in the New York Times as “undeniable, impressible … clear as a bell!”
