12/18: DOUGLAS R. EWART & QUASAR. Professor Emeritus at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, multi-instrumentalist Ewart is a towering figure on Chicago’s creative music scene. His 40+ year career includes creative engagements with collaborators like Muhal Richard Abrams, Amina Claudine Myers, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Anthony Braxton, Von Freeman, Fred Anderson, Joseph Jarman, Yusef Lateef, Roscoe Mitchell, Dee Alexander, James Newton, Cecil Taylor, and Henry Threadgill. A past chairman of the internationally renowned Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), he has served on advisory boards for The National Endowment for the Arts, Meet the Composer (New York City), and Arts Midwest. For this concert, his ensemble will be performing “Sounds and Songs for a New Paradigm,” where his philosophical and intellectual approach to jazz is both creative and inspiring.
